The North London producer began with a monthly show on NTS Radio and had several projects on Bandcamp.
During this time, she also returned to a creative realm she hadn't explored since her teenage years. In contrast to her club music sensibilities, this mode emphasizes keyboard improvisation and vocal experimentation, eschewing rhythmic structure in favor of atmosphere and timbre. From this shift in thinking emerged Whatever The Weather: a new coordinate system, a new climate, a new platform for expression.

The track names on "Whatever The Weather" are all based on the temperature (°C), a simple standard that highlights the subtle nuances in James's mood-building. The world she imagines freezes, thaws, sways, and blossoms, changing with each song. Regarding her creative process, she says, "It was free-flowing. I stopped when I felt I'd finished," and created with the guidance of her subconscious.
