"For Them" is the final chapter of Rula Halawani's decade-long project to focus on the Palestinian landscape and to highlight the stories of its people. Together with writer and curator Charlotte Cotton, Rula speaks about the importance of remembering people and places in times of displacement and destruction.
In "A Way In," Rahim Fortune and Earlie Hudnall, Jr. discuss how empathy and connection are the fundamental premises of their work. These capabilities are the artifice that transforms the camera from an inanimate record-keeper into an unwavering trustworthy agent and creator of memories.
Additionally, "Shrieking, Wailing, Sobbing" pairs previously unpublished photographs by Gabby Laurent with the original book by Anne Carson as inspiration.
MoMA's highly anticipated exhibition of LaToya Ruby Frazier re-envisions, re-scales, and re-examines her work spanning the past quarter century. In "A monument to solidarity," the exhibition's lead curator, Roxana Marcoci, Acting Chief Curator of Photography at MoMA, offers insight into the conception of the exhibition and the story behind it. Roxana's essay is accompanied by images from LaToya's iconic series, On the Making of Steel Genesis: Sandra Gould Ford (2017).
In "Shaper," Elle Pérez speaks with author and podcaster Gem Fletcher, continuing the dialogue about finding creative permanence through fluid processes. The feature presents newly curated images from three of Elle's recent works: Devotions (2022), guabancex (2023), and Shaper (2024).
True Photo Journal has two different covers for each issue, and the one we selected this time is by Lydia Roberts. The magazine is large-format, and it is a high-quality photography journal with the artists' photos printed prominently. It seems that it is not widely available in Japan, so please take a look at it. (Ammel)
