Radio Yugawara
Radio Yugawara
"Radio Yugawara" (2024) by Passepartout Duo and Inoyama Land.
Passepartout Duo is formed by Nicoletta Favalli (Italy) and Christopher Salvito (Italy/USA), and since 2015 they have been traveling the world presenting creative compositions they call "slow music". When they visit Japan again in 2023, This session was made possible by a reunion with the music of Inoyama Land by Makoto Inoue and Yasushi Yamashita.
This work, "Radio Yugawara", was recorded in Yugawara, Makoto Inoue's hometown, in 2023. His parents run a kindergarten and the recording took place in the hall on the premises. When Passepartout Duo arrived, a circle of four tables was prepared in the hall. The tables were carefully arranged with children's instruments, including handbells, glockenspiels, xylophones, recorders, melodica, and harmonicas. Around the tables were shelves on which various bells and wind chimes were hung, and in this environment, each performer set up their own electronic instruments. The time was divided into three sessions: (1) "Electronic instruments only", "Acoustic only", and "Mix of both", (2) "Four types of duets" in which members of each "duo" take turns playing, and (3) "Playing freely without constraints", resulting in more than three hours of recording.
