A MAGAZINE CURATED BY GRACE WALES BONNER
A MAGAZINE CURATED BY GRACE WALES BONNER
This is the 22nd issue of A Magazine Curated By (2021), which features guest curator Grace Wales Bonner, a British-Jamaican designer who founded her own London-based fashion brand, Wales Bonner, in 2014.
From her debut collection "Ebonics" in Fall/Winter 2015 to her latest collection "Volta Jazz" in Spring/Summer 2022, Grace has explored the myths and superiority of "Blackness" on earth, weaving the cultural context into her designs. Wales Bonner's collections and presentations encompass diverse identities and capture their expressions of beauty. Her aesthetic, now at the forefront of the fashion industry, seeks to fuse tailoring techniques with casual street attire and the gestures of the people who wear it.
Titled " Rhapsody In The Street ," this issue is the 22nd in the "A Magazine Curated by" series, where designer Grace Wales Bonner carefully selects representative works and historical documents from the archives and combines them with newly commissioned essays, paintings, and portraits in response to the traditions of 20th century black poetry, literature, and portrait photography. The combination of matte and glossy paper with gold-plated edges makes it a beautiful book object. In addition, this issue includes a random print from Cameroonian photographer Samuel Fosso's "Autoportraits II" series inserted inside the magazine.
