You and I
You and I
This is "You and I" (2015) by poet Shuntaro Tanikawa.
Even now at the age of 83, Tanigawa continues to take on new challenges. A poet who has been writing at the forefront for over half a century, his latest work features 37 poems, all of which feature various references to "I" and "you."
A poetry collection that reaches a reader's hands is therefore not merely a tool to carry the poems inside, but can also be considered a work of art. A book that is comfortable to hold in the hand, that can be opened without being distracted by unnecessary things, that can withstand repeated opening and closing, and that makes readers want to do so again and again - surely this is the ideal form of a poetry collection? A book that is not meant to decorate the poems inside, but rather a vessel through which one can present the poems with bare hands - I hope readers will feel this way about this collection. <From the bookmark inserted in the book, poet Shuntaro Tanikawa>
This poem is told in the first and second person, and leaves everything to the reader. Not only is the content impressive, but the binding and the paper used for the pages are also carefully crafted, making this a book that allows readers to experience the joy of holding a poem in their hands.
