"The Doors of Perception" (1995) by Aldous Huxley.
This famous essay explores the closed possibilities of human perception and the true meaning of art through the author's experience taking the hallucinogen mescaline. It was a precursor to various New Age movements that followed.
When it comes to accounts of experiences with questionable drugs, Ramo Nakajima comes to mind in Japan. His light-hearted and non-offensive tone never tires of reading, but Huxley's account of his experience with mescaline clearly speaks of the connection between everyday life and a kind of other world, both philosophically and biologically. It is full of a different kind of charm and suggestions for the reader. (Ammel)
