A journey to the piano

This is Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Journey to the Piano" (2024).

The video is made up of two parts: Part 1, "Towards Quiet and Weak Music," which explores the essence of the piano, while talking about Ryuichi Sakamoto's ambivalent feelings towards the piano, the last instrument he played, and the piano music he has been familiar with, mainly classical music, and Part 2, "Exploring the Origins of the Piano," which explores the mystery of keyboard instruments dating back to the Christian era. In addition, the video includes a playlist of songs selected by Ryuichi Sakamoto and a guide to the sound sources.

This book, which talks about the essence of the piano as an instrument and music in Ryuichi Sakamoto's own words, is essential reading for anyone wanting a deeper understanding of Ryuichi Sakamoto's final public piano solo performance.

This book is a hardcover edition of the final volume of the "Commons: Schola (School of Music)" series, "Vol. 18: A Journey to the Piano" (July 2021), with a new structure and design.
